We have all used thermometers, scales, light meters and other measuring devices, writing down the results in tables or on the back of an envelope. These days, automatic probes are widely used, taking measurements and recording the information on a computer. For many years, the science department have used measuring probes linked to data-loggers which record and store the data. They have not always been easy to use!
The latest generation of these devices is now with us and work using a wireless (Bluetooth) connection to a computer, a tablet, iPad or smartphone and are very much simpler and easier to use. This means that your son can make relevant measurements in the laboratory or in the field and have all of the information stored on his laptop or iPhone or tablet, no matter what his device is. The system we use is called ‘SparkVue’ and is available as a downloadable app at no cost as the College has a full site licence.
We would really like your son to take advantage of these new facilities and ask that you kindly arrange for the app to be installed on your son’s device, using the information given below;
