Dear St Edmund’s Families
Marist Canberra is kindly inviting the St Edmund’s community to join them at an upcoming parent forum. The seminar for the evening will be presented by renowned author and social commentator Melinda Tankard Reist on Wednesday September 11th. The forum will aim to inform and equip parents with the tools to assist their boys in making positive and healthy choices in relation to their views on masculinity, relationships and the treatment of women and poses the question how can boys rise above toxic messages about masculinity and become men of integrity?
Boys are bombarded with hyper-sexualised messages and images in media and popular culture. The lives of young men are increasingly impacted by exposure to porn related content online. They are exposed to this content not only before they have had sex, but often before their first kiss, with the average age of first exposure 11.
In a dynamic multi-media presentation, which includes first person stories of young men, Melinda will explore how exposure to these messages is contributing to a distorted view of bodies, relationships and sexuality. Melinda will help your young men stand against the tide, resist the ‘bystander’ effect, and choose to be men of integrity.
