Senior Schools Athletics Carnival 2019

Last Friday, students from Year 7 to 12 participated in the annual Athletics Carnival. It was a very successful day for all involved. The Carnival is more than just a sporting event, it provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate the School’s values and to build House spirit.

It might have been a chilly start to the day, but the competition was hot! We saw some courageous performances on the track and field events.  It was fantastic to see all the students get involved and dress up in House groups. This year, it was Rice House that led the way earning 1414 points, followed by Treacy (1346 points) Clancy (1304 points) O’Brien (1198 points) Mulrooney (1169) and Haydon (1027 points).

Research shows that physical activity can have an enormous impact on concentration and learning in the classroom, and it’s amazing to see this translate into practice. The Carnival is not just for the students who are good at running, it is about giving all the boys the confidence to have a go.

The students are to be congratulated on their accomplishments and magnificent efforts throughout the day. Thank you to all of the students for displaying a good attitude by having fun, being a good sport, co-operating and doing their best. Keep up the good work! When asked for their highlight of the day the boys responded “Shot put with Ms Manenica was awesome.  Clean palms, dirty fingers was the technique that we learnt.  It was really fun”

A big thank you must also go to the many staff who assisted in the smooth running of the event, as well as Mr Joel Richardson and his team in the Physical Education Department for a very successful carnival.
