Social Justice Focus

Term 1 Social Justice Focus- Caritas ‘Project Compassion’

In Formation lessons, students in Years 4-12 discussed and reflected on the vital work that Caritas does around the world. Caritas International is a Catholic charity organisation that has operated for over 50 years in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Each year, Project Compassion runs during the six weeks of the Church season of Lent. We are invited to help raise funds and stand in solidarity with the millions of people across the world who Caritas works with to make their lives better. To learn more about ‘Project Compassion’ please access the following link https://www.caritas.org.au/

The theme for Project Compassion for 2022 is “For Future Generations” which reminds us that the good works we do today will have a positive impact on those who follow us. This speaks to our scriptural theme for 2022, “Let us consider how to stir one another to love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24-25 In this Lenten season let us be called to show love through good works inspired by the example of Jesus Christ.

The term one social justice focus for the College is to support Caritas and there are two ways that all boys can assist:

  1.  By purchasing a meal deal from the Canteen.  The Junior School will be having their meal deal day on Wednesday March 23rd. The senior boys can collect a meal deal order form from their House leaders, during tutor group this week. Meals to be picked up on Thursday the 7th of April at 1.05pm in canteen. House Leaders will assist with distribution.
  2. Participating in Cultural Clothes day 7th of April Week 10, which is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures that weave together to make up the fabric of St Edmund’s College. We would ask for a gold coin or note donation on cultural clothes day. The money raised goes towards Caritas to support and make the lives of people better today and into the future.

Please note that parents and carers of the will receive an email explaining logistics of the day closer to the event.
