The Wayne Kaye Basketball Tournament

The first annual Wayne Kaye Basketball Tournament has begun with a few surprises and upsets in round 1.  The two-tier tournament is played in the House format pitting House against House and mate and mate.  Wayne Kaye was a legend in the local basketball community and led the St Edmund’s College Basketball program for decades.  In his honour, boys will be competing in the Year 7, 8 & 9 and Year 10, 11 & 12 tournament conducted throughout Term 3 to lift the Kaye Shield and possibly walk away with the individual honour of the Kaye Medal – named after the great man himself.

A lot of trash talk took place in the lead up to the tournament with both Haydon House teams being hot favourites under the guidance of Mr Chalker.  As usual there is extra burden placed on the Treacy House students with Ms Gair pressuring her students into participating.  The ever reliable Ms Park has assembled teams that could push for the trophies whilst newly appointed Mr Masters and the mighty Mulrooney boys may struggle to win a game. Mr Macarthur and the Rice students are bringing the street cred whilst Baden Godfrey and Ms Blore’s O’Brien boys are unfortunately making up the numbers.

Don’t worry about the Olympics as the Wayne Kaye Tournament will be the hottest ticket in town.  All students are encouraged to get to the gym each week and support their House as they battle their mates to lift the first ever Kaye Shield.
