Tutoring at St Edmund’s College

The College is pleased to announce that the after school tutoring program will commence in Week 4 of Term 1 2021.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students of all ages and stages of their schooling career to be proactive and conscientious learners.

Tutoring will be available to students on a voluntary basis on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, where teachers will be available for structured support. Students can receive assistance with revision of their class work, homework or with their upcoming assessment tasks. While students will be exposed to skills such as: deconstruction of language for improved understanding of the demands of a task, organisation and time management, scaffolding and breaking tasks down into digestible portions and general study and exam preparation. The program is designed to foster and develop an independent work ethic in students.

Tutoring will be located in the Senior Library from 3:30pm-5:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Students attending have the luxury of working with various teaching staff at the College from a variety of teaching areas and also benefit from the peer mentoring and academic guidance that the Year 12 students provide. The library will also be open on Monday afternoons until 5.00pm and Fridays until 4:30pm this year for students to engage in some independent and self-directed study.

After school tutoring does not negate a student’s responsibility to seek out classroom teacher advice and assistance as a first point of call and does not excuse students from completing homework and assessment by the due date on the premise that they may be waiting for help from a tutor.

Students may attend as many or as few sessions as they wish on a regular or casual basis depending of student participation rates. Please see the schedule below to work out the most appropriate sessions for your son/s and send me an email with the students name and preferred day.

We look forward to working together to see improved confidence and a greater sense of achievement in our students.
