Welcome from the Teaching and Learning Office

Looking forward to 2021

Welcome to the new students, and welcome back to all returning students, to Eddies for the 2021 school year. While it’s always a bit of a shock to the system after a nice leisurely summer, the energy and optimism that comes when students arrive at the the start of a new school year is always invigorating.

In the Teaching and Learning office our first goal is to get every student into their classes and settled as quickly as possible. We’ve done preliminary checks of timetables, but there are always a few issues that need to be sorted out to start a year. We’ll start by first seeing students who have a mistake in their timetable, that is they are either missing a class or they have been enrolled in a wrong class. Please note that some classes are semester based, so if you don’t have your first-choice elective in Semester 1, you quite possibly are scheduled for it in Semester 2. Also note that if you didn’t make elective selections, or if you didn’t provide us with back-up preferences, you may have been slotted into a class that you don’t really want to be in. If this is the case, or if you’ve changed your mind about what classes you want to be in, we’ll be able to work with you on creating a more desirable timetable, but in that case you’ll want to collect a form from the Teaching and Learning office, fill it out, and gather all relevant signatures before returning it back to us. Please bear in mind that we won’t make class changes simply so that you can spend more time with your friends, and while it is regrettable if you’ve missed out on getting your favourite teacher this year, unfortunately we can’t accommodate change requests based purely on teacher preference.

So come see us if you need to, but otherwise settle in and get stuck into learning as soon as possible. A lot of good work has been done by our wonderful teaching staff getting prepared for the year, epitomised by Mr Zavone himself who has been diligent and enthusiastic in prepping himself to teach Italian, our newly introduced language, as well as by Ms Wilson, who has put forth a tremendous effort in preparing to take the Elevated Learning and Personal Formation programs to the next level. I can confidently say that our students are in great hands with the teachers we have at Eddies, and we are also fortunate to have Jack Hodges as our student academic leader. His outstanding effort and positive attitude provides a great model for all students.

At the end of the first fortnight we’ll have an academic assembly to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our class of 2020. I’m confident that using their example Eddies will continue to grow from strength to strength in our academics and across the school.
