Captains Corner – Opening Mass

The last few weeks at school have been anything but quiet, from start of the school year, to going on camp and retreat and starting to get our first assessments. This week the school had two events that made the week a very eventful one. This week we had both an Ash Wednesday Liturgy and the opening school Mass.

Ash Wednesday Liturgy was an excellent way to start our Wednesday morning and was a well run and enjoyable liturgy. The liturgy talked about sacrifice and taught the boys about Lent and why we celebrate Ash Wednesday and why we make sacrifices during lent.

The very next day the whole school made the trip down to St Christopher’s Cathedral, where the boys filled the Cathedral, and as a community, we celebrated the start of a new school year with our opening Mass, where we started the new year with one of the Year 4 boys lighting the candle, a great service and the commissioning of our College Leaders for 2020.

Opening Mass and Ash Wednesday were a great showing of the community coming together and sets a great standard for a big year ahead. Coming up the Junior School has their swimming carnival at the end of this week, winter sports will be starting up their preseason training, the summer sports are getting to finals time, the boys will all be getting their first lot of assessments in and in the coming weeks the Senior School will have their carnivals.

Last week was a huge success in the College and exemplified how well the St Edmund’s community celebrates and gets involved in College events. The boys will only build their involvement from here with coming carnivals and winter sport starting soon.
