Co-Curricular and After School Activities Update

There will be a staggered return of co-curricular activities during Terms 2 and 3. We are considering many factors in our discussions about, and planning for, the return of co-curricular activities. The most important consideration is the safety of all students and staff.

The College will be following advice from the Federal and ACT governments, as well as other bodies such as ACT and national sporting organisations, when assessing whether each co-curricular activity is able to resume. Distancing and hygiene requirements will mean that there will also be challenges with having access to appropriate facilities and enough staff to run activities while meeting safety requirements.

All co-curricular and after school activities are currently suspended except for the following activities which are about to resume.

Homework Club

Junior School Homework Club runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Junior School library from 3.30pm-4.30pm. This will begin on Tuesday 26 May and will have limited places available. To book in for homework club, please email dkelly@stedmunds.act.edu.au with a day’s notice. Preference will be given to those students who were regular attendees in Term 1.

Tutoring

After School Tutoring Program (Years 7-12) will begin in Week 6 on Tuesday 2 June. Tutoring runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the High School library and bookings can be made via email to Leanne Gair: lgair@stedmunds.act.edu.au As with the Junior School Homework club, places are limited and preference will be given to regular attendees in Term 1. The selected extension Mathematics class that meets with Mr Mickleburgh will re-commence on Friday 5 June.

Music Tutoring

One on one music tutoring is able to recommence at the College. Music tutors will be in contact with families with further details.

Winter Sports Fitness Program

The College is commencing a fitness/conditioning program for our Yrs 11 and 12 Winter Sports students. These sessions will begin in Week 5 on Tuesday 26 May. College staff have worked very hard to ensure that these sessions follow all requirements set out by local and federal governments. They have put in place a number of procedures with regard to: group size, physical distancing and hygiene protocols.

Unfortunately, the College does not have sufficient resources at the moment to extend these activities to other year groups under the current requirements. The College will continue to respond to updated circumstances and advice regarding this activity and other co-curricular offerings for students in other year groups.

To ensure that all participants are clear with regard to strict hygiene and physical distancing expectations, students who would like to participate in the Winter Sports Fitness Program must attend an information session before they are able to attend any session in this program.

An information session will be held at lunchtime in the ERC on Thursday 21 May. All Yrs 11 and 12 students wanting to participate in this program must attend the meeting.

Please contact our Co-curricular Coordinator, Angus Balmaks, on ABalmaks@stedmunds.act.edu.au  further details about the Winter Sports Fitness Program.
