Last week Junior School joined in the whole school opening Mass at St Christopher’s in Manuka. It was great to see our Junior School Leaders commissioned, along with our new Principal and Senior School Leaders. Congratulations to Owen Wyatt (6 Gold), Thomas Norris (6 Blue) and Nicholas Paras (6 White) on their selection as Junior School Leaders for semester one. We look forward to their input and hope they can help drive new initiatives. Next week we wish our Year 6 students well as they head off to Tuross for three days. The Year 6 camp will have a theme of leadership and community and also a strong focus on the sacrament of Confirmation.
PE & Sport News
A reminder that our first carnival of the year is the Swimming Carnival at Queanbeyan on Friday 9 March. All entries are currently being collated by Mr Fox and a schedule of events and approximate timings will be available through the Junior School News next week.
In Physical Education lessons, students are preparing for the athletics carnival. They are learning how to throw, run and jump across various disciplines. Students will move from shot put to discus, before learning about long jump and sprinting.
The Canberra Raiders will visit us this Friday afternoon to deliver their RESPECT Program to all boys in the Junior School. This presentation aims to provide an interactive learning experience that empowers young people on the values of what makes a successful team, group, or community, whilst encouraging students to lead active lifestyles.
Off to the World Championships
Congratulations to Lewis Marshall (6 Gold). In late January, Lewis competed in the Muaythai National Championships on the Gold Coast. He came away with Gold and will compete for Australia at the World Championships in Thailand during August. All the best with your training Lewis from all of us here at St Edmund’s College.
Co-curricular Opportunities
You and your son would have received an email last week regarding choices for upcoming seasons/activities. This year we are trying to align Junior School sports trainings to a Wednesday afternoon (or sometimes Mondays if there is a second training or if there is no oval space on Wednesdays). This ideally will free up Tuesday/Thursday/Fridays for students to participate in other activities that the school offers. As always, there will be exceptions. Basketball, for example, may have trainings on any morning or afternoon due to court availability. Any questions about co-curricular should be directed to Mr Angus Balmaks (abalmaks@stedmunds.act.edu.au).
