Junior School News: Week 3 Term 2, 2022

It what has been a busy start to Term 2, I hope all families were able to enjoy their weekend, especially our mothers and mother figures on Sunday. Last Friday we celebrated with many mothers from our community and it was really wonderful to have visitors back to the college. I would like to thank all of the students who assisted with our Open Day on Saturday and our Experience Eddies Day on Monday. The feedback I get from prospective families about our Junior School students is always very positive at these events. They take their job of representing the school very seriously and I must say they are extremely good ambassadors for St Edmund’s.

12/U ACT Swimming Championships – Wednesday 4 May. Well done to Charlie Burke, Will Hancock and Phillip MacNamara for competing in this event last week. A special congratulations to our newest ACT Champion, Phillip MacNamara, who came first in the 50m Backstroke and second in the 100m Backstroke.

Matt Giteau Cup (Rugby Union) – Thursday 26 May. For our four Year 5/6 teams, due to the numbers of students interested, trials will not be held and all players will have the opportunity to attend. However, some training sessions may be held over the coming weeks at lunchtimes if Mr Fox deems necessary for arranging teams. Year 4 have had to have a trial, as we had too many registered players for one team and not enough for two teams. Selected players will receive permission notes by the end of this week.

Year 5/6 Touch Football Gala Day – Tuesday 31 May. Following on from our touch football unit in Physical Education at the end of Term 1, we will be entering approximately 6 teams of interested students into the ACT Touch Football Gala Day (Southside). Notes will come home with students who have shown an interest this week.

South Weston Cross Country – Wednesday 1 June. Selected students will be given a permission note this week.

Year 5 NAPLAN Testing 2022 – Week 3/4. Mr Zach Holmes has placed information regarding these tests in previous editions of the Vortex in Term 1. If you have any questions regarding your son’s participation in this testing, special provisions, or exemptions, please contact Zach: zholmes@stedmunds.act.edu.au or your son’s teacher. These tests will run from Tuesday 10 May – Friday 13 May with catch-up sessions held on Monday 16 May and Tuesday 17 May for anyone who is absent during initial tests.

The order of the tests will be: Writing, Reading, Language Conventions, and Numeracy.
