Junior School News: Week 9, Term 2, 2019

As Term 2 draws to a close, I would like to thank all the dedicated staff who have given so much of their time for the boys. Last week the majority of year 6 participated in a sports and leadership tour to North Sydney. We played rugby, football and basketball matches against St Pius X (another EREA school). St Pius X were very gracious as hosts and the boys loved the trip. The students also got to tour ANZ stadium, play at Collaroy beach and participate in leadership activities. Although the matches didn’t go our way, we had many complements from St Pius staff and also members of the public about our students’ behaviour. A huge thank you must go to staff members Miss Menenica, Mr Balmaks and Mr Roberts for taking time away from their busy lives to drive buses, coach, supervise and engage positively with the boys. Hopefully this trip can evolve and become a permanent fixture on the calendar for future year 6 cohorts.

Reports will be available online later this week. Information on how to access reports will be sent via email.

Staffing Update – Please note that Ms Janes will be leaving halfway through Term 3 to commence maternity leave. Her replacement, Mr Tony Di Fronzo, will begin on August 19. Mr Di Fronzo has decades of experience and has been involved with St Edmund’s for a considerable amount of his career. 4 Blue have already met Mr Di Fronzo. Parents/carers will have an opportunity to meet with him on September 19 during scheduled parent/teacher meetings.

Junior School Leaders – we would like to thank Jesse Borghouts, Jesse James (6 Blue) and Hamish Fietz (6 Gold) for their contribution to the Junior School community as Junior School Leaders.

Well done to all of our House and Service Leaders for Semester 1.

Service Leaders – William Steele, Thomas Jamieson, Treacy House – Monty Green and Ashley Loughman, Clancy House – Darnel Uelese, Haydon House – Noah Nouri-Girones, Rice House – William Van Duren, O’Brien House – Ben Soper, Mulrooney House – Sebastian Hillier

Semester 2 Junior School Leaders, House Leaders and Service Leaders will be selected early next term.

Just a reminder that St Edmund’s College breaks from this Friday 28 June and our first day next term is Monday 22 July.

Junior School Holiday Programs

Unfortunately Funfit Sports no longer operates out of the College Gymnasium during holiday periods. I have phoned Canberra Grammar School to check whether their holiday program, CGSCare, is open to St Edmund’s students. I have been informed it is open to our students and the best part is that it begins operating from next week (during the tricky week 10 holiday period). Please feel free to phone CGSCare on 6260 9656 or visit their website: https://cgs.act.edu.au/primary-school/cgs-care/ for more information.

In the upcoming holidays, the Junior School will be hosting a Team H.E.A.T holiday program.

The activities will be based on a variety of fun themes and will run from July 15th & 16th. This will be Monday and Tuesday of the last week of holidays.

The program will be led by Mr O’Rourke and Mr Di Fronzo and will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.

I hope you have an enjoyable break and we look forward to seeing you back next term.
