Stay Over (replacing Sleep out for 2020)

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,” Matthew 25:35

In 2020, the homeless people of the world have been hit hard. The social isolation that people have experienced generally, has been multiplied for those seeking access to shelters and emergency services. We keep all people that are homeless in our prayers at this time. As a way of continuing the legacy of holding an annual Sleep out for students, this year we will offer a ‘Stay Over’ where students will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges that people sleeping rough have to contemplate. Sarah Kelly (parent at St Edmund’s) President of Karinya House has been invited to speak to our students about the great work that she does with mums in the Canberra community. Our students on the night will particularly be focusing on activities that explore the unique challenges for women and children who experience the difficulty of not having a home. For more information on Karinya House please see here https://karinyahouse.asn.au/

All money raised from this event will go to Karinya House. Please see invitation/ parent consent form to this event below.

Stay over form 2020

“St Edmund’s has been a part of the Karinya House story since 2013.  The total fundraising support to date is just over $20,000! This financial contribution is coupled with the boys help at working bees, generous parent donations and beautiful gifts and hampers. It is so important that the boys recognise the work that we do- how a pregnancy effects a woman’s life but also the life of the father of her child and how love, respect and responsibility plays into that relationship.” Taken from the recent edition of the Pelican- Feature on Sarah Kelly.
