Setting and Achieving Goals

With Semester 2 underway this is the final and last stretch for the Class of 2023. AST tests are around the corner and the stressful assessment periods approaching. It is a challenging time of the year for some. Those who show responsibility and commitment to their studies remain calm and collected for the remaining weeks of school.

At the start of every semester each boy must complete their SMART goals. The acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time. The boys are instructed to create both academic and social goals which will see them through for the whole semester. An example of an academic SMART goal could be, to achieve a minimum 80% in English assignments for the semester. The goals are unique and individualised. They provide clarity and enforce time management and commitment to the students. These goals are used as guidance to maintain and gain an understanding of what they could achieve.

“It is not about how you start … but how you finish, finish strong.”

This quote resonates perfectly for Year 12s. Early entry applications for universities have opened and boys are challenged with staying focused and motivated. Thoughtful and strategic preparation is a key aspect of finishing the academic year.

Additionally, Rosie, (a Blue Merle) and Frank (a Golden Retriever cross Kelpie) have joined the College along with two new passionate School Counsellors, Sharon, and Philomena. This new addition to the College opens up a new support network for the community. With open arms we have embraced the new additions to the College and are excited about this new interactive support.

Finally, as a St Edmunds’ community we must persist when faced with challenges within stressful times, and we must not lose sight of the finish line. We must strive towards it, and we will finish strong.

Edmund’s to the fore.
