NT Mission Trip

‘Unique, Unrepeatable and Sacred’

In week nine of term three, eight students and two teachers participated in a Mission trip to the Northern Territory. The eight students assisted in running retreat days for two secondary colleges and one primary school. These included St John’s College Darwin, O’Loughlin College Darwin, and St Francis Xavier Primary school in Daly River. The SEC team lead local students through various Youth Ministry activities which were targeted towards building connection with the younger students, proclaiming the word of God and then asked the students to respond in meaningful ways i.e. writing a prayer or small group discussions. The core message for all participants was that everyone is unique, unrepeatable and sacred.

Our SEC student team grew so much in the week regarding their leadership skills and facilitation of the retreat days. The students commented that they loved seeing the top end and all its beauty. A day trip to Daly River was eye opening with regards to seeing a remote community and observing crocodiles on the riverbed.

A highlight of the trip was to meet and dialogue with Miriam Rose a recent Senior Australian of the Year recipient. It was also amazing to visit the Florence Fall’s and Buley rock pools in Litchfield National Park.

Many thanks to Mr Fatiaki for all his help organising and implementing the trip. Lastly, a big congratulations to the students and by extension their families who supported this wonderful adventure. The memories made will stay with these young men for the rest of their lives. Christus Lux Mea!
