Senior School Swimming Carnival 2018

With the Year well and truly underway, St Edmund’s College had its Senior School Swimming Carnival on 9 March. With glorious weather upon us, staff and students made their way to Canberra Olympic Pool to participate in a variety of aquatics activities. The day started early as the Age Championships kicked off at 8.00am with a strong contingent of elite swimmers from across all age groups. With over 40 championship races, it was the battle between Nick Taylor and Gus Sheppard that had that crowd on their feet. The battle for Opens Age Champion went down to wire with Nick Taylor only slightly prevailing with more podium finishers.

With the whole school arriving at 10.00am, we quickly got underway into our four-way activity rotations. Students participated throughout the day for the trophy of Swimming House Champion. This battle saw students participate in swimming races, water polo, beach volleyball and the crowd favourite “Hungry Hippos” led by Master in Charge of Fun, Mr Trent Masters. The day was highlighted by the annual ‘diving comp’ that saw competitor’s throw themselves off the diving platform in search for the ultimate prize – Crowd Appreciation.

Throughout the day the energy was high and the competition was fierce. This high energy spirit was captivated when College Captain, Zane Hogan, led a school-wide chant that soon reminded all why being a part of St Edmund’s College is so special. I think it is safe to say that everyone knew we were from Eddies.

The Physical Education Department would like to congratulate Ms Gair and Treacy House for being the 2018 House Swimming Champion. The following students are also to be congratulated for being awarded the 2018 Age Group Champions:
