Rugby

The game of Rugby Union was first played at St Edmund’s College in 1954. Rugby at St Edmund’s College has for many years, been highly regarded locally, nationally and internationally. Many boys are chosen to represent the ACT Brumbies at interstate and national competitions, and 7 old boys have gone on to play at the highest level as Wallabies.

Our season starts in March with preseason training and trials. Pre-season for older ages often involves an interstate or international tour, with the First XV travelling to locations such as New Zealand and Japan. The local ACTJRU season kicks off at the beginning of May and runs through to the beginning of September.

At St Edmund’s College, we aim to provide an effective and supportive rugby program so that students can participate in all aspects of rugby while developing their skills and interest for the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. With a good solid number of students playing Rugby at the school, we field teams across many ages and divisions, catering for all levels of players.

We also aim to provide the necessary support and opportunities to every participating student so they can reach their desired goals and maximise their enjoyment.
St Edmund’s College has consistently produced outstanding sportsmen, particularly in Rugby, thanks to the support of dedicated staff, students and our many wonderful volunteers.
