Junior School News: Term 4, Week 8, 2023

This will be the final edition of Junior School News for 2023. It has been a very challenging but rewarding year in Junior School and we have seen so much growth in our students. I would like to thank all of our Junior School class teachers and specialists who have continued their commitment to our students’ education. Our Junior School staff really are outstanding teachers of boys, and this has really shone brightly in 2023. Next year we will have increased enrolments in Junior School, with two Year 4 classes, three Year 5 classes and three Year 6 classes. In 2024, we welcome Mr Joe Sidorko who will teaching in Year 5 for Semester One while Mr Bell is on leave. Mr Sidorko is an enthusiastic young teacher and we are excited to have him join our Junior School. Mrs Sally Darmody will be teaching one of our Year 4 classes next year as Ms Natalie Janes prepares for maternity leave early in Term 1. This year we farewell Mr Tony Di Fronzo. Tony has taught at the school for 32 years and will be sorely missed by the community. He regularly gets mentioned by Year 12 leavers as their favourite St Edmund’s teacher and it is easy to see why. We wish Tony all the best in retirement after a wonderful teaching career. Class allocations will be emailed to parents/carers in January. Please note that teachers and I spend a great deal of time on class allocations, considering friendships, who works well with who, and academic and pastoral considerations. I would like to take this opportunity to wish our community well during the Summer holidays. May your break be one of rest, connection, and recovery from a big 2023.

Junior School Activity Day (Big Splash), Friday 1 December. Just a reminder this excursion is taking place. Your son may wear casual clothes on the day. The canteen will be open but students are also encouraged to bring a packed recess/lunch. Please remember to pack a hat and sunscreen for your son/s.

The Junior School Presentation Ceremony – Tuesday 5 December at 9.15am – 10.30am in the RJ Wallace Hall – Parents/carers of award winners have been notified via email last week. All Year 6 students will receive a certificate to acknowledge their completion of Junior School studies. Parents/carers/family of award winners and Year 6 students are most welcome to attend and see the last formal Junior School gathering for our Year 6 students. If you would like to take your son out for lunch afterwards, please inform your son’s class teacher.

Year 6 2024 – Parents/carers are reminded our school BYOD program begins in Year 6. Technical specifications are listed on the school website: BYOD Program (sec.act.edu.au)
