Junior School News: Week 2, Term 3, 2020

This Saturday we have many football and rugby matches at the College. This is a generally a significant day for the school and we are seeking support from families in ensuring we meet our Covid-Safe practices. Rugby has many fixtures that will see St Edmund’s v Marist. Although we usually have large crowds at these matches, unfortunately this cannot be the case on the weekend. Please follow the advice given from sports coordinators and team managers. In particular, follow the mantra, ‘if you do not need to be here, please don’t come’ and the one parent per player guideline. Even as staff members we have been told not to attend sporting fixtures unless we are required to be there.

Please note that as we move into the month of August, we will be enforcing our ‘no hat, no play’ rule once again in accordance with SunSmart directions from the ACT Cancer Council.

Thank you to those parents/carers who were able to attend parent/teacher interviews on Tuesday evening. I trust constructive conversations were held in order to help your son/s set academic and attitudinal goals for semester two.

New House Leaders for Semester 2 – Congratulations to Charlie S (O’Brien), Ben S (Mulrooney), Ethan J (Treacy), Ethan O (Rice), Patrick K (Clancy) and Noah G (Haydon) who were presented with their badges last Friday. We look forward to their leadership and role modelling for the remainder of 2020.

Quicksmart/MacqLit – We are really happy with how our numeracy and literacy support programs are progressing. At the moment we have a few dedicated volunteers who help keep these programs running. A huge thank you to Natasha Lansom, Michelle Johnston, Jenny Spence and staff members, Jack Dowling and Tessa Zarb. We have many students accessing programs across the Junior School and this would simply not be possible without the support and encouragement given from volunteers such as these wonderful people.

Thursday 20 August – Moderation Day. Pupil Free day. Junior School teachers will be involved in professional learning in Literacy education.

Homework Club – Mr Kelly will be running homework club this term on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. Please email him dkelly@stedmunds.act.edu.au with a day’s notice should you wish to book your son/s in.
