R U OK Day

R U OK Day at St Edmund’s College was a resounding success, emphasizing the importance of asking a simple yet powerful question, “R U OK?” Students were greeted in the morning by the College Captains and leadership team as they made their way through the front doors. The College leadership team were all wearing bright yellow “R U OK” hats and beanies to promote the cause and handing out lollies and wrist bands and making sure every boy was warmly welcomed to school.

House meetings and activities were held during Period 2, and these highlighted the significance of checking in on each other’s mental well-being and being there for your mates, with this year’s theme, “I’m here to hear,” underscoring the importance of active listening and starting that important conversation. House competitions added a fun element to the day, with different year groups participating in various activities such as, tug-of-war, trivia, basketball and much more, all promoting teamwork and unity amongst the boys whilst fostering positive relationships within the college community. The college canteen also made R U OK decorated donuts to further promote the day through the canteen. Furthermore, there were posters promoting the day in the week leading up to R U OK Day, which could been seen in every corridor of the college to remind students of this important day.

The impact of R U OK Day was hopeful that it extended beyond the school, sparking meaningful discussions at home and amongst students of the College, and reminding us of all that we have a role to play in creating a supportive and caring community. As we carry the spirit of R U OK Day forward, let’s always be ready to ask, “R U OK?” and lend a helping hand, building a culture of care and connection year-round as St Edmund’s always has.
