Naplan

ACT schools will participate in NAPLAN Online testing from 13-25 March 2023. Tests will be conducted from the 13th-18th of March and catch up tests will occur from the 19st-25th of March.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss your son’s participation in this event, please contact the NAPLAN Coordinator, Zach Holmes on zholmes@sec.act.edu.au for information on this process.

St Edmund’s College Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) structure means students in Years 7 and 9 will be required to have their own device fully charged and a set of headphones on testing days. Please speak with your child about their device suitability following the Practice Test this Term. Some students may require parents to enable software downloads so that the NAPLAN Lockdown Browser can be installed. Students in Year 5 will complete NAPLAN Online using College devices. If you foresee a problem for your son regarding the suitability of his device please contact the NAPLAN Coordinator to arrange a solution prior to the testing week.

Special Provisions have been arranged for students with additional needs that have been documented with Diverse Learning and if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks. Parents do not need to take any actions for this process if the College is already aware of these provisions. Please contact Lisa Millar on lmillar@sec.act.edu.au with questions regarding Special Provisions.

As a parent, you can become familiar with NAPLAN Online tests by visiting the public demonstration site, https://nap.edu.au/naplan/public-demonstration-site. The purpose of the site is to familiarise students with the type of items they will see on NAPLAN Online and related functionalities. This level of familiarisation is worthwhile to help students understand and be comfortable with the format of the test.

NAPLAN Online allows for tailored testing. This means that student are presented with sets of questions based on their performance during the test. This model provides students with the opportunity to better demonstrate their range of literacy and numeracy skills and it is more engaging for students. Further information explaining tailored testing can be found at https://bit.ly/2PgG7rL.

Further information on NAPLAN Online, including the public demonstration site, is available at www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online.
